Android has taken the world with storm by its openness, intuitive interface and large app count of more than 800,000 apps in Play Store. This has also made it popular not only amongst global Android smartphone manufacturers, but also Indian manufacturers to use Android OS in the smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung Galaxy S 4 WhiteGalaxy S4 is the successor to Samsung’s hugely successful Galaxy S series. It has a Full HD AMOLED screen of 5 inches, translating to pixel density of 441 ppi. The smartphone is similar to Samsung’s various devices with a plastic body. It has a Samsung’s standard button layout of two buttons for Option and Back with physical button for Home in between. Secondary camera and few sensors also find their place at the front. The back of the smartphone has a rear camera and speaker grille. The removable back cover reveals slots for microSD card and SIM.
In terms of hardware, S4 can be called as beast with 1.6 GHz Octa-core processor. For rendering graphics, it has PowerVR SGX544 MP3 GPU. It has 2 GB of RAM and internal memory of 16 GB, which can be easily expanded through microSD card up to 64 GB. The hardware of the S4 is really superb, but what really shines in S4 is Samsung’s TouchWiz optimization on Android 4.2.2. It has numerous features such as Air View (previewing files without even opening them), Air Gestures (Using hand/ palm to do few things), Smart Pause (Video pauses/ resumes automatically whenever the eyes are not looking at the screen) and lots more.

The smartphone has a 13 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED Flash. Apart from usual features like geo-tagging, face and smile detection, etc. Samsung has packed in really useful options such as Dual Shot, Sound & Shot, Story Album, Eraser, etc. It’s capable of recording videos at 1080p@30fps. The smartphone also has a 2 MP camera at front which can be useful for video calling.

Similar to Galaxy S4, Xperia Z sports a 5 inch touch screen with Full HD resolution resulting in pixel density of 441 ppi. The design of smartphone features a plastic and glass giving it a nice look, but also making it a fingerprint magnet.  It doesn’t have any buttons at the bottom since it has virtual navigation buttons. The front of the device also has a secondary camera and sensors. It uses a prominent metallic button for power key at the right along with volume keys and microSIM slot, while left has a place for microUSB charging and microSD slot. The top have a headphone jack, while bottom of Xperia Z is bereft of any elements. The smartphone’s back is non-removable and houses a primary camera. The USP of Xperia Z is its IP 55/ 57 certification making it dust and water resistant. For this purpose, the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass technology. In terms of hardware, the device runs on a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor along with Adreno 320 graphics processor. It has a 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage, with an option to expand it up to 64 GB via microSD card. The device is given juice by a Li-ion battery of 2330 mAh with STAMINA mode. This mode automatically turns off the power sucking apps running in the device whenever it is in sleep mode. Xperia Z runs on Android 4.1 with some Sony’s customization on it such as small apps (running some most needed apps on the top of apps already running on the smartphone).

For camera lovers, the device packs a 13 MP camera with Exmor RS optics and LED flash. It has various features such as geo tagging, touch to focus, smile and face detection apart from some differentiating features by Samsung like HDR Photography, simultaneous video and image recording, etc. The device is capable of shooting Full HD videos with resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It also have a front-facing camera of 2 MP for video calling purposes.

The smartphone is powered by 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm snapdragon processor and Adreno 320 graphics processor. For memory, it has 2 GB RAM and internal storage of 32 GB/ 64 GB. It has a battery of 2300 mAh which is enough to last it for a day. HTC One runs on Android 4.1 (JellyBean) with Sense customization having features such as BlinkFeed.

Even in terms of camera, HTC stands out from the crowd by offering 4 MP camera which actually packs in more number of pixels, also called ultrapixels. The camera have an intuitive feature of Zoe, which lets users click quick video of 3.6 seconds, in short animated GIF(s). The front-facing camera of 2 MP is useful for video calling purposes.

It has a standard capacitive buttons layout of Option, Home and Back at the bottom, and a front-facing camera with some sensors at the top. The back has a camera and LED flash, which is removable to reveal dual-SIM slot and microSD card slot. The volume keys are at the left side and power keys are on the left side. The headphone jack and microUSB charging port finds place at the top and bottom of the device respectively.

S5 Titanium is powered by 1.2 GHz Mediatek quad-core processor with 1 GB RAM. It has in-built storage of 4 GB, which can be expanded to 32 GB through microSD card. It has a removable battery of 2000 mAh. The smartphone uses Android 4.1 platform.
For shutterbugs, it has an 8 MP rear camera with LED flash and autofocus. It’s capable of recording videos at 1080p@30fps. It also offer options like geo-tagging, face detection, touch to focus, etc. It also has a front-facing camera of 2 MP for video calling.

It offers a 5 inch screen sporting a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels (~ 294 pixels per inch). It has an interesting dual-color look with front in black color and back of the device in white color. Apart from the screen, the front also has a secondary camera and sensors at the top and capacitive buttons for Home, Options and Back at the bottom. For inserting headphones, the jack is at the top, whereas microUSB charger can be put in port at the bottom.
The smartphone runs on a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor from Mediatek along with PowerVR graphics processor. In terms of memory, it has 4 GB internal storage, expandable up to 32 GB using a microSD card. It has a Li-ion removable battery of 2100 mAh. For OS, it’s based on Android 4.1 with few added softwares from Micromax like Micromax store, chat app, etc.
In camera department, Canvas HD has an 8 MP camera with flash and autofocus supporting usual features like Face and smile detection, touch to focus, etc. It also has a 2 MP front-facing camera for video calling needs.

All of the smartphones mentioned above are good in their own way and end decision boils down to the user needs, preferences and their budget line.
